TOM LAUNCHES ‘COOK & DINE AT HOME’ WITH ONLY A PAVEMENT AWAY

Only A Pavement Away, the national charity supporting people facing homelessness and those wanting to rebuild their lives through employment, is launching an exclusive at-home dining initiative in partnership with chef and patron, Tom Aikens, to raise money for the charity.

Aikens has collaborated with Jamie Barber and Myleene Klass, founders of restaurant quality ‘finish at home’ meal kit service, My Supper Hero, to create Cook & Dine at Home. The new range features delicious signature dishes which will be delivered nationwide and can be cooked at home, with Only A Pavement Away receiving a majority of the profits from all sales.

Cook & Dine at Home will allow people to support the charity while enjoying a delicious gourmet meal curated by Tom Aikens, inspired by dishes that the chef himself makes in his downtime.

Launching on 12th September, the first month’s menu includes a starter of treacle & ginger glazed and cured salmon, and roasted aubergine, followed by a treacle & marmite marinated short rib with roast broccoli and shitake salad. Aikens and My Supper Hero are promising tempting new menu options to tempt diners at the beginning of each month.

Tom Aikens, chef and Patron commented:

“I’m always looking for new initiatives to raise funds for Only A Pavement Away who not only help to give people a second start in life with the tools and skills they need to rebuild self-belief and confidence in themselves, but also contribute to the hospitality industry by giving their members stability through employment in the sector.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy deliciously prepared meals at home that are big on taste and fun, but with zero hassle. It’s the perfect solution to hosting a great dinner party.”

Jamie Barber, Founder of My Supper Hero, commented:

“It’s a great pleasure to welcome Tom and Only A Pavement Away to My Supper Hero. Myleene Klass and I started My Supper Hero with a mission to help people eat brilliantly at home by sending restaurant quality meals throughout the UK which people can cook at home with less than 10 minutes of effort. Tom’s mouthwatering meals are amongst the best that we have on My Supper Hero, and I’m delighted that we are also helping support such a great charity!”

Greg Mangham, Only A Pavement Away Founder and CEO said:

“This is a great initiative – with supporters able to enjoy a superb night-in and raise money for our Members at the same time. It means the charity can help more people work towards independence, self-sufficiency and bringing much needed new talent to the hospitality sector. We can’t thank Tom and Jamie enough for their generosity and support.”

Cook & Dine at Home will run for three months, with the recipes changing monthly. Each two course meal costs £110, and serves 2 people, and is available nationwide, excluding Northern Ireland and the Highlands. To purchase visit www.mysupperhero.com.

About Only A Pavement Away:

Only A Pavement Away, established by Greg and Gill Mangham on World Homelessness Day in 2018, provides people experiencing barriers to employment with support and resources, covering everything from training and development to financial grants, to secure long-term employment in the hospitality sector. Since it began, the charity has placed 530 of its Members into careers in hospitality which has added over £25.8 million to the economy whilst supporting a further 2000 candidates at recruitment fairs and workshops and has supplied £55,000 in grants to help with everyday necessities such as shopping, travel fares, clothing and rent.

Only A Pavement Away’s impact is significant, providing stability through employment for the people they help, an important resource for hospitality businesses that continue to struggle with recruitment, while adding money back into the UK economy.

Recent figures from the charity have uncovered a strong retention rate, with 60%1 of their members remaining in employment for more than a year, higher than the average tenure of a hospitality professional. The average length of service is 53 weeks, demonstrating this is an approach that works for both employers and the members Only A Pavement Away support.

Only A Pavement Away aims to change perceptions about ‘typical’ candidate profiles, connecting their employment partners with hard-working individuals. The charity has recently expanded their operations into Manchester and Scotland, taking their cause UK-wide and helping yet more people to rebuild their lives and reintegrate safely back into society.
